A BRIGHT start across Britain today will be wiped out by dreary cloud and heavy rain as Tuesday progresses – but an 18C scorcher is coming.
Latest weather forecasts say sunny spells up and down the country will make way for grey and damp conditions as a rain front sweeps in from the west.
Met Office Deepening grey skies will move in from the west on Tuesday, with showers and thick cloud sweeping across the country by around 6pm this evening

Northern Ireland and Western Scotland will be among the first hit by the downpours – before the wet weather makes its way south and eastwards later.
Despite the grim weather picture today, temperatures will still widely hold up in the double figures – helping to fend off any wintry showers.
The Met Office said of Tuesday’s weather: “After a chilly start there will be sunny spells for many.
“Dull, wet and windy weather will develop over Northern Ireland though, spreading into Scotland, northwest England and Wales later.”
And forecasters at Meteogroup UK added: “It will be generally dry throughout the morning with some sunny spells likely in the south and east at times.
“However, it will become mostly cloudy during the afternoon.
“Becoming wet with some bursts of heavy rain by late afternoon across much of the west and north. Brisk south-westerly winds.”

For tonight, the weather experts added: “It will be a cloudy evening for most with rain affecting all parts except the far south and south-east.
“Some of the rain will be heavy, especially in the north-west.
“Through the night, it will be wet for Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and north Wales but it will be dry in the far south.”
HOTTER THAN OZ
Brits have been told to brave the rainy weather – as scorching BBQ-weather temperatures and blazing sunshine are on the cards for as early as this week.
The UK could be hotter than Australia later this week as a boiling “Saharan plume” blows in.
It might make this the hottest February day ever as the mercury soars to 18C in the coming days.
The current record for the warmest February day came in 1998 when highs of 19.7C were clocked.
But now forecasters think this coming Saturday could end up taking the title.
Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell told The Sun Online: “At the moment, we are looking to reach 18C, most likely in central southern England, or it could be in north-east Wales or north-east Scotland.
“The record is 19.7C in 1998. At this stage, there is a small chance that we could get close, but not for definite.”
In Hobart, Tasmania – where it is summer – temperatures are set to only reach highs of 17C from midweek.
Becky from the Met Office said of the heat: “It is originating from northern Africa and the Canary Islands, so it is coming up from the south.
“There is a big area of high pressure moving across the UK, so it will be nice and sunny too.
“It will be mild right across the country but it’s localised spots that will get the extremely mild temperatures.”
Bookmakers Coral cut odds on summer being the hottest ever to 5/2.
Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead said: “Last year was a scorcher – but 2019 is already simmering and punters reckon this summer will be even hotter.”
Weather experts have scrapped forecasts of a ‘Beast from the East’ chill, blaming warm southerly winds arriving instead of expected cold easterlies.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Computer models show record 20C February temperatures are possible from the coming weekend.
“Families flying abroad for half-term sun could have stayed home and gone to a UK beach instead.
“Plumes of warm air from the Sahara are due in coming days and also in spring. 25C is certainly likely by April.
“There’s a good chance of another fine summer due to the past 12 months’ continuing pattern of high pressure blocking, which brings hot conditions in summer.”
