Schwarz didn’t immediately jump at the chance to fight Fury (Picture: Getty)The announcement of Tom Schwarz as Tyson Fury’s opponent shocked many boxing fans, but the German fighter himself couldn’t believe the Gypsy King wanted to fight him.
Schwarz, 24-0, was actually hoping for a clash with Anthony Joshua before his promoter informed him they had received an offer from Top Rank and Fury.
In fact, the offer came as such a shock for Schwarz, his instinct was to turn it down.
‘After my last fight I went on holiday,’ Schwarz told the Independent.
Fury is the big favourite against Schwarz (Picture: AP)‘When I got back my promoter asked me which heavyweight I would most like to fight. He said ‘who is the best heavyweight for you Tom?’
‘Then he asked me who I think the best heavyweight in the world is. I said Tyson Fury. He is a bad and crazy boxer, I would never fight him.
‘But I’d fight Anthony Joshua, that would be a good fight for me.

Schwarz wanted to fight at the MGM (Picture: Top Rank)‘Then my promoter said to me: ‘Tom, we have a contract to fight Tyson Fury’.
‘I just couldn’t believe it. I thought ‘no way’. I slept on it for one night and then I said yes, of course. It’s the MGM.
‘I thought hard about saying ‘no’ on that first night but since then, everyday I have thought ‘yes’.’
