THE GREATEST Dancer viewers were left confused earlier this evening when Simon Cowell was spotted in the live studio audience.
The X Factor mogul was introduced on the show by host Alesha Dixon – with the star standing up in the crowd and waving to the BBC mentors, including his former co-star Cheryl.
Simon’s presence was announced to fans at home
Taking to social media, confused fans wondered why Simon was there – questioning why the father-of-one was supporting what they believed to be a rival show.
One tweeted: “Why is Simon Cowell in the audience??”
Another wrote: “Did I just see @SimonCowell on the BBC in the audience for @GreatestDancerTV?”
A third queried: “Does Simon Cowell have to be on TV every Saturday?”

Unbeknown to viewers, The Greatest Dancer was actually created by Simon’s Syco production company.
After 14 years of making talent shows for ITV, this marks the first time that Simon partnered up with the BBC.
Nigel Hall, global head of television at Syco Entertainment, previously said of The Greatest Dancer: “You can’t be a star in showbiz if people don’t want to see you, and often it wasn’t the best technical dancers but the dancers who had that heart and passion and dedication that received the 75% and so opened the mirrors.

“As Simon often says, you have to have the likeability factor!”
He also claimed that Simon was “key” in the creation of the show – providing the funds for the pilot episode and helping to fine-tune the format with co-producer Thames.
He is even said to have recommended the mentor role to Cheryl, telling her that she would be “mad to turn this down”.
