TESCO’S own-brand tea has beaten off competition from Tetley in a blind taste test – even though it’s half the price.
The cheaper brew costs just £1.10 for a box of 80 teabags compared to £2.47 for a box of Tetley’s of the same size.

The taste test was carried out by 20 members of the West Kent Women’s Institute for this week’s episode of Shop Smart: Save Money on Channel 5.
Other brands that featured in the comparison were Sainsbury’s £1.10 Red Label, Co-op’s own brand (£1.10), Yorkshire Tea (£2.99) and PG Tips (£2.40).
The TV show compared the average price across major supermarkets and pitted branded against non-branded tea bags.
Tesco’s tea came up trumps against Tetley’s with 16 out of the 20 tasters preferring the supermarket brew.

Sainsbury’s was up against Yorkshire Tea, and it turns out that Brits would rather sip on the more expensive stuff here, with 14 tasters choosing it as their favourite.
The testers couldn’t tell the difference when it came to the Co-op’s Fairtrade 99 tea blend and PG Tips, even though the latter is the UK’s best-selling tea.
Both teas scores a ten out of 20 in this round, with many saying they didn’t think they were different.
It’s estimated that Brits drink 876 cups of tea a year, so shoppers could save themselves up to £20.70 annually by swapping from the most expensive branded tea to Tesco’s without compromising on taste.

The Channel 5 show recently tested supermarket school uniforms from Sainsbury’s, M&S, Morrisons, Next, Asda and John Lewis to find out which store has the best quality clothes.
