Freddy Leo has revealed what he thinks is the major key to his impressive speed on University Challenge.
Freddy Leo from Germany has been impression University Challenge viewers with not only his impressive knowledge, but the speed he managed to buzz in.
The 20-year-old, who is studying history at Oxford University, managed to nail questions about Albert Einstein, Sidney Poitier and Czech composer Debrich Smetana during the episode on Monday.
And being able to chime in on his buzzer lightyears ahead of everyone else definitely helped too.
So what’s his secret? The man himself thinks it’s partly down to being young.
Oxford university student Freddy Leo, from Germany, was bossing it with the buzzer on University Challenge (Picture: BBC)He told The BBC: ‘When you’re 20 you’re in the middle of your studies which you can dedicate yourself to in a way you perhaps can’t if you have a family and a day job.
‘And, of course, when you’re younger your impulses and reflexes are that much quicker.’
His team are through to the second quarter-final after winning the round against Emmanuel College, Cambridge by 190-55.
But ultimately, he is going to rely on his tried and tested methods to help the team advance.
‘It’s a very stressful situation: you have Jeremy Paxman, the audience and the lights – I just did what works for me,’ he added.
He will have a lot of viewers behind him, who were seriously impressed with his performance in the previous episode.
