STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood has slammed his co-stars “tributes” to Dame Darcey Bussell after she announced that she has left the show, sniping: “She’s not died”.
The 54-year-old star is famed for his acid-tongue, and although he admitted that he was shocked by Darcey’s departure, he doesn’t understand the public “condolences”.

Speaking to The Mirror, Craig also put to bed rumours that 49-year-old Darcey had chosen to leave the show over a row with the BBC over pay, fallouts with her fellow judges, and the so-called Strictly curse.
He said: “She’s done seven years and she loves it and she has a great time.
“It’s a good thing she wants to do other things.”
Addressing claims that Darcey was upset that head judge Shirley Ballas, and Bruno Tonioli were paid more than her, the star said: “That’s absolute rubbish. It depends what else you do for the BBC.”

Craig went on to reveal that he had reached out to Darcey following her shock announcement, adding: “I’ve sent her a private message – unlike everyone else who sends their condolences as though she’s dead! Which makes me laugh.
“She’s not died, she’s just left the show. She’s got a life to lead – she’s a Dame, she doesn’t need it.
“Darcey is a prima ballerina – we were really honoured to have her.
“That’s really important. That we had someone of her calibre on the show.”

He added: “I’m shocked as well because she was one of my best mates, especially on the tour, we had such a fantastic time. I’m really going to miss her.”
Darcey announced her Strictly departure in a statement earlier this week, sharing: “It has been a complete privilege for me to be part of Strictly, working with such a talented team.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time and will miss everyone from my fellow judges, the presenters, the dancers, the musicians, the entire back stage team, and especially the viewers of the show, who have been so supportive.

“I am not leaving because of any upset or disagreement at all, I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance, after seven truly wonderful years that I can’t imagine having gone any better.
“I know I will miss being part of this unique show and the fact that it celebrates dance is something I am so passionate about. I hope that I may be very lucky to be asked back again one day.”
Shirley Ballas penned a touching message to pay tribute to Darcey after the announcement, with host Claudia Winkleman also honouring Darcey on social media.
