Stanley Donen missing from Oscars 2019 in memoriam days after death

Stanley died on Thursday aged 94Stanley Donen was noticeably missing from the Oscars 2019 in memoriam tribute, despite the Singin’ In The Rain director passing away just days before.
Donen, who died on Thursday (21 February) at the age of 94, was best known for directing 1952’s Singin’ In The Rain and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.
The filmmaker also won an Oscar in 1997 when he was honoured with the Academy Award’s Lifetime Achievement accolade.
However, despite Donen’s stellar Hollywood film career and being a recipient of an Oscar in the past, the director was not remembered in the Academy’s tribute to those who passed away in the last year.

Superman actress Margot Kidder was also among those remembered, while the Oscars too paid tribute to Penny Marshall, best known for directing Big. British actor Albert Finney, who starred in films like Annie, Erin Brockovich, Skyfall and The Bourne Legacy, also received honourable mention.
It’s likely Donen’s omission from the heartfelt segment wasn’t intentional but rather because the tribute had been created before his recent death.
