Reports claim Trey filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles, with The Blast stating the cause of the couple’s split is currently unknown.
Their decision to separate may come as a surprise to fans, as Trey and Boogie had seemed pretty loved-up with one another on their family’s Instagram page (@thesouthparkers) as recently as January.
Trey and Boogie wed back in 2014 and are parents to daughter Betty, six, who has voiced characters on South Park alongside her dad.
Trey and Boogie were married for nearly five years (Picture: Instagram/ thesouthparkers)The brains behind the US animated sitcom, Trey is also the voice of many of South Park’s male characters including Eric Cartman.
The show has a renowned history of tackling sensitive topics, pulling no punches against Scientology, the depiction of Muhammad and the US political climate with its not so PC humour.
In September, South Park kicked off its 22nd season by addressing the issue of school shootings in America with an episode titled Dead Kids.
The season wrapped in December last year.
Show creator Trey is also known for co-creating controversial Broadway show The Book Of Mormon, that has since gone on to win nine Tony Awards.
His marriage to Boogie was his second marriage – Trey was previously married to ex-wife Emma Sugiyama. They tied the knot in 2006, but split just two years later.
