Skipping breakfast may raise risk of heart disease by up to 87 per cent, study finds



THOSE who regularly skip breakfast are at risk of heart disease by up to 87 per cent, a shock new study found.
University of Iowa researchers looked at 18 years of date on 6,550 people over the age of 40 who had no history of heart disease.

The group were given regular surveys and were asked “How often do you eat breakfast?”
Most of the group would eat breakfast everyday, 5.1 per cent never did, 10.9 per cent rarely did amd 25 per cent would skip several days.
Boffins were able to identify a clear link between people’s breakfast habits and the risk of heart disease.
People who skipped breakfast were 87 per cent more likely to develop heart woes.

SHOCK NEW FINDINGS
The authors of the study said: “Breakfast is believed to be an important meal of the day, whereas there has been an increasing prevalence of skipping breakfast over the past 50 years in the United States, with as many as 23.8 percent of young people skipping breakfast every day.
“However, studies on the health effects of skipping breakfast are sparse.”
But they pointed out that this is the first study to look at breakfast habits and cardiovascular mortality.

They noted however those who don’t eat breakfast may be more inclined to snack unhealthily throughout the day.
While eating in the morning may help balance blood sugar levels and control blood pressure.
The findings were published in the American College of Cardiology.
