The British-American combo were beaten 6-3 4-6 6-2 out on No.2 Court by the No.1 seeds, who progress to the quarter-finals, ending MurRena’s high-profile run at the All England Club.
Soares and Melichar are renowned doubles specialists – with the latter winning the mixed doubles title last year – and Murray felt he and Serena couldn’t quite match their consistency.

‘I think we were probably a little bit more up and down than them throughout. They were more consistent.

‘Bruno played a bad game on his serve at 5-4 in the second set. Apart from that, we weren’t getting lots of free points. We were having to work for every game. Yeah, they deserved to win.’
Murray revealed on Tuesday that he was not yet ready to return to singles after his long injury lay-off, and he was still weighing up playing the hard-court doubles season out in the United States.

‘We had so much fun,’ said the 23-time Grand Slam champion. ‘We aren’t ready for it to be over. But we both are obviously focused on our health, both of us actually, taking it literally one day at a time, seeing what happens from there.’
