Samsung Galaxy Fold leak REVEALED – release date, images, specs and price

SAMSUNG’S long-awaited foldable smartphone is supposedly going to be called the Galaxy Fold.
That’s the latest leak ahead of tonight’s Samsung Unpacked event, where we’re expecting the launch of the Galaxy S10 smartphone – and perhaps the Galaxy Fold too.
Samsung / SlashLeaks The Samsung Galaxy Fold is closer to being official than ever before
Samsung partially unveiled its foldable smartphone late last year – but didn’t reveal the full design.
However, new – and seemingly official – images of a device called ‘Galaxy Fold’ have turned up online.
As expected, the gadget appears to be a tablet-sized device that flips down into a smartphone form factor.
The leaked marketing images turned up on generally-reliable mobile leak repository SlashLeaks.

Samsung Galaxy Fold – what is the Samsung foldable phone?
For years, Samsung has been teasing its work on a folding smartphone.
The idea is that you can own a large tablet-sized device, which then folds in half and becomes pocketable.
While folded, you’d be able to use the gadget as a normal smartphone – effectively giving you two devices in one.
Samsung officially announced the device during a press conference in November 2018, holding up a shadowy gadget in a dark room.

Sadly, Samsung failed to provide a clear picture of the device, give any details about it, or even name it.
Most rumours suggest it will be called the Samsung Galaxy X or Samsung Galaxy F, and even Samsung Galaxy Flex has been suggested – but the latest rumour is that it’ll be dubbed Samsung Galaxy Fold.
Galaxy Fold release date – when is Samsung’s foldable phone out?
Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the launch date for the Galaxy Fold.
However, Samsung is hosting a major press event in San Francisco and London next month.
It will take place on February 20, and will be live-streamed for Brits at 7pm.
But there’s growing certainty that the Samsung folding phone will also be on show.
The biggest evidence for this is a recently erected Samsung billboard in Paris that reads “The future unfolds – February 20” – if that’s not a guarantee, what is?

The handset is supposed to bridge the gap between smartphones and tablets, and could revolutionise mobile design forever.
The technology is described as an Infinity Flex Display – in the form of a tablet that packs down to smartphone size.
It’s got a large 7.3-inch screen (as rumoured) that’s nearly an inch bigger than the heftiest Apple handset, the iPhone XS Max.
And up to three separate apps will be able to run simultaneously.
Sadly that’s about all we know until Samsung makes an official announcement.

Galaxy Fold price – Samsung foldable phone price
The bad news is that the handset is likely to cost a pretty penny.
Last year, we spoke to industry expert Dan Ives, of Wedbush Securities, who said that Samsung’s foldable handset could cost far more than the £899 Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – currently Samsung’s priciest model.
“Given this totally innovative design and significant R&D behind it we believe $1,200-$1,350 price points are what we would expect when they eventually hit the market,” Ives told The Sun.
Phone makers typically use identical or near-identical numbers (rather than direct currency conversions) for US versus UK pricing.
So if a phone was sold at $1,350 in the USA, you’d expect UK pricing to fall somewhere between £1,250 and £1,350.
However that’s still less than Apple’s most expensive iPhone – the £1,449 iPhone XS Max (with 512GB storage).
