PSG hit out at Neymar after he fails to report for pre-season training amid Barcelona return rumours

The 27-year-old became the most expensive footballer in the world when he joined PSG from Barcelona for £222m in 2017, however, he has endured a difficult spell in France.
Neymar has made no secret of his desire to return to Barcelona this summer but PSG are adamant that he will remain in the French capital for the upcoming season.
The Ligue 1 champions had expected Neymar to return to training on Monday after he missed the Copa America due to an ankle injury but he was not in attendance.

A PSG statement read: ‘On Monday 8 July Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was due to return to pre-season activities with the Paris Saint-Germain senior squad.

‘Paris Saint-Germain notes that Neymar Jr was not in attendance at the agreed time and place. This was without the club’s prior authorisation.

‘The club regrets this situation and will therefore take appropriate action.’

While Barcelona would be open to re-signing Neymar in spite of his acrimonious departure from the club, their president Josep Maria Bartomeu played down the chances of him returning.
‘We know that Neymar wants to leave PSG but we also know that PSG don’t want him to go, so there is no case for signing him,’ he said on Friday.

Barcelona have already spent £65m to sign Frenkie De Jong from Ajax and are expected to splash out a further £120m to buy Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
Neymar has won six trophies during his time with PSG and has scored 51 goals in 58 games for the club having endured an injury-ravaged two seasons in France.
He was absent as Brazil won the Copa America for the first time since 2007 on Sunday after suffering an ankle injury in a game against Qatar last month.
