PLAYSTATION has now revealed July’s free game line up, after a couple of good months it’s less good news this time around.
It was a very high bar, though, so this month’s offerings may still appeal…
4 Both games this month are good, but don’t have quite the same appeal
What are July’s free PlayStation Plus games?
Pro Evolution Soccer 2019
Horizon Chase Turbo
Pro Evolution Soccer’s 2019 was one of the better iterations in the franchise recently, and seems to have picked up some players again after another mis-step from FIFA for the 2019 version.
If you’re thinking about making the jump across franchises for the 2020 season, then grab PES2019 for nothing and see how it grabs you.
It doesn’t have the licences to compete with FIFA, especially having lost the Champions’ League this season, but it’s still a great core game.
It’s worth noting that you do get Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal on a team-by-team basis, as well as leagues like the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership and strong South American representation.
Horizon Chase Turbo is a fun arcade racer sure to please those longing for the simpler era of OutRun and Top Gear.
It’s a shot of racing nostalgia you can inject directly into your veins, and it is a hell of a lot of fun while it lasts.
What were June’s free PlayStation Plus games?
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
The Handsome Collection is actually two games in one, plus a whole lot of extra content.
You get Borderlands 2 and spin-off Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all the downloadable add-ons released for both games.
That could spell very good news, as Borderlands 2 is expected to get some new DLC this month, despite having been originally released back in 2012.
Sonic Mania is also a great game. The little spiky chap has had a rough time of it of late, but this is one outing that really served to remind everyone what was great about him.
Fast levels, a great retro look and couch co-op add up to a the best Sonic experience in many years.
4 Sonic Mania’s art style is old-school, but the animation is top-notch
4 Borderlands: The Handsome collection punches way above its weight in terms of content
