Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reinstates method abandoned by Jose Mourinho at Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has thrown himself into all areas at Manchester United (Picture: Getty)Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is working closely with the club’s Sport Science department to analyse his squad’s performance and to avoid needless injuries.
The Norwegian has made a stunning start to life at Old Trafford, winning 11 of his 13 matches in charge and transforming the mood at the club.
Solskjaer’s mood has been in start contrast to that of his predecessor Jose Mourinho, who was no longer on speaking terms with members of his squad and was techthy with those within his inner circle.
But the differences extend far further than demeanour. Unlike Mourinho, Solskjaer is now working closely with United’s Sports Science department to aid his team selections.

Mourinho often ignored the advice of the Sports Science department (Picture: Getty)The department provides data on Solskjaer’s squad and allows him to make informed team selections based on the fitness of those avaliable.
The data can suggest which players are playing at their limit – known as the ‘red zone’ – and provides Solskjaer with details of previous matches such as distance covered.
Though Mourinho was once thought of as a ‘modern’ manager when he first arrived in England, he had an old-school mentality towards fitness.
John Terry, who was captain twice under Mourinho at Chelsea, says the Portuguese coach used to ignore injured players.

Terry made a telling revelation about Mourinho (Picture: Getty)‘If you picked up a knock and missed a day’s training, he’d come in and he wouldn’t speak to you,’ said Terry on BT Sport.
‘He would walk straight past you on the treatment table.’
The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marouane Fellaini all curried favour with Mourinho by playing through the pain barrier.
Smalling was taking pain-killing injections towards the end of Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford and missed the first six weeks of Solskjaer’s reign to play under the Norwegian as he was advised to seek rest and recovery.
