WHEN Pokémon Let’s Go was revealed last year, GameFreak promised ANOTHER new game for 2019.
This one is going to be a “core” Pokémon game that will continue the story and is likely to introduce a new generation of monsters.
A ‘core’ Pokemon game will be released in 2019
Nothing more has been heard of that new game — but that could all change tomorrow.
According to Nintendo, the event will feature “roughly 7 minutes of new information”.
Both Nintendo and Pokémon shared an image with three Pokéballs — the spheres players use to capture and store the game’s titular monsters — but offered no new information.
The number three may well be significant, as each generation’s new set of monsters come with three ‘starter’ Pokémon that players are introduced to at the start of a new game.
Will the new Pokemon RPG on Nintendo Switch be in the core series?
Back in 2017, Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara promised a “core RPG Pokemon title on the Nintendo Switch”, the Verge reported.
Very few details have been released but we do know it is different to its Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! titles.
Both Let’s Go! titles are seen more as expansions for a new or younger audience.
The “core” title is expected to be released in 2019 and will feature an old-fashioned RPG adventure, as it once did on handheld consoles.
Does the Pokemon RPG follow Sun and Moon?
It is technically a follow-up since the last games in the core series were Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Those were in turn enhanced versions of Pokemon Sun and Moon on the Nintendo 3DS.
Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go! Eevee will be released for Switch on November 16

Is this just a follow-up to the Let’s Go games?
It is possible this will incorporate some of the elements of the Let’s Go games, as that is currently the only example of a Pokémon game on a traditional console.
All previous versions of the main series have only come out on handhelds such as the Gameboy or Nintendo DS.
It remains to be seen what platforms this new RPG will release on.
