Nicholas Lyndhurst rules out new Only Fools And Horses as too many cast members are dead

ONLY Fools and Horses legend Nicholas Lyndhurst says the iconic sitcom will never return to our screens – because so many of its stars have DIED.
The 57-year-old actor, who played Rodney Trotter for more than three decades, explained that the loss of many of the cast – and writer John Sullivan – meant a return was impossible.

He told the Mirror: “We can’t do any more. John was the driving force.
“We’ve also lost quite a few of the cast members now, I don’t think I could do it… I certainly couldn’t do it without John. We can’t.”
Speaking about his co-star David Jason, who was his screen brother Delboy, he added: “At the risk of depressing everyone, I think the last two times I’ve seen David [we were] at funerals.”
He added: “We did make a pact to get out for a drink at some stage without planting somebody. We are still close.”

The star was speaking at the press launch for Man Of La Mancha, where he will star from late April at the London Coliseum.
Ironically, the production will be pitted against the Only Fools and Horses musical, which is playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket a few streets over.
The beloved sitcom has often had to hastily tailor its scripts to deal with cast members’ deaths, with Grandad actor Lennard Pearce’s fatal heart attack in 1984 ushering in the arrival of Uncle Albert.
Lennard had been filming the episode Hole In One, but scenes were re-shot with Buster Merryfield’s Uncle Albert instead.

1999: Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert)
2001: Kenneth MacDonald (Mike the barman)
2014: Roger Lloyd Pack (Trigger)

The episode was pushed back to be the third episode in the sitcom’s fourth series, behind Strained Relations, which was added at the last minute to include Grandad’s death.
Later, the untimely death of Mike the barman actor Kenneth MacDonald on holiday in 2001 saw Roy Heather’s Sid take over the running of the Nag’s Head pub.
However, Roy also died in 2014, aged 79.
