There’s fresh hope for Mr Blobby’s TV comeback (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/REX)It was his old ally Noel Edmonds who claimed that Mr Blobby was an alcoholic and struggling to make ends meet.
But Channel 4 has given the iconic Nineties character fresh hopes of a TV return on Crystal Maze, after turning him down for Bake Off.
Under pressure from rival broadcaster BBC Three, representatives for Channel 4 confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that even though his baking dreams have been dashed, he’s welcome to apply for a very different challenge.
Their tweet reads: ‘Statement: Whilst we respect and commend Mr Blobby (full name: Blobert Blobertson) for his dedication and enthusiasm to baking, we feel that his unfettered ebullience might not fit with the tone of the show.
‘He is, however, welcome to apply for The Crystal Maze.’

Channel 4 faced criticism from BBC Three who tweeted them to say: ‘Invite Mr Blobby on to bake off you cowards.’
Contestants already confirmed for the forthcoming celebrity special include Russell Brand, Michelle Keegan, Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo, Caroline Flack and Johnny Vegas.
Sadly, the impressive 22-contestant line-up does not feature the ebullient Mr Blobby and frankly, it’s a disappointment.
TV presenter Blobby’s on-screen counterpart Noel revealed new details about his sad downfall last November, while his own career bounced back on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.
The pink and yellow-spotted TV presenter found fame with Noel on BBC Saturday night variety show Noel’s House Party but Noel now says he’s struggling to find work.
Noel revealed: ‘He got a bar in Marbella and Mrs Blobby left with the kids and he drank the profits frankly.
‘It was never going to work when you think of the climate in Marbella – that smell of rubber was putting people off, so he is a shadow of his former self.’
Mr Blobby’s last known TV appearance was on Loose Women at the end of last year when his viewers failed to take him seriously in a chat about Brexit.
Before that, he made an attempted comeback in 2012 when he turned up on Big Fat Quiz Of The Year and stole the entire show with a shambolic appearance.
Any hopes of reuniting with Noel have also been dashed as the TV host says he has zero plans to ever work with his former co-star again.
The Great British Bake Off Stand Up To Cancer special begins on March 5 at 8pm on Channel 4.
