Millennium Mills fire: London City Airport planes fly through smoke



The abandoned factory is on fire (Picture: @GeeEssBee)Over 70 firefighters are tackling a huge fire at derelict factory Millennium Mills in the West Silvertown area of London.
Videos posted to social media show planes making their way through smoke billowing across the flight path of London City Airport.
London Fire Brigade said ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters rushed to the scene on Mill Road in east London just after 6pm this evening.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: ‘Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire at a derelict factory on Mill Road in Silvertown.

‘Around half of one section of the building is currently alight.
‘The Brigade was called at 6.05pm. Fire crews from Poplar, Stratford, East Greenwich, Whitechapel, Barking, Bethnal Green, Plaistow and East Ham fire stations are at the scene.
‘The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.’
