Matthijs de Ligt looks set to leave Ajax (Picture: Getty)Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt admits he may have played his last game for the club.
The Dutchman has been widely linked with an exit from Amsterdam this summer after an extraordinary season with Erik ten Hag’s side.
Barcelona have already agreed a £75million deal to sign de Ligt’s team-mate Frenkie de Jong and had hoped to bag the defender in a double deal.
However, the Catalans will have to sell the likes of Philippe Coutinho to fund the move and that’s created a window of opportunity for Manchester United and Liverpool.
Liverpool are keen on de Ligt (Picture: Getty)The defender’s spoken of his admiration for Virgil van Dijk in the past, while United’s need for a central defender is clear.
And, after winning the league title with Ajax on Sunday, de Ligt has admitted he’s held discussions to leave the club.
Asked if he’d made his last appearance for the club, de Ligt replied: ‘I don’t know yet.
‘There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement.’

De Ligt is expected to cost in the region of £80m, meaning he would break the world transfer record paid for a defender.
Ajax are realistic about their chances of keeping the defender but they will not sanction any further departures as they seek to keep the team together for at least another 12 months.
