Manchester United are plotting a move for Lyon’s Moussa Dembele (Picture: Getty)Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly preparing a bid to sign Lyon star Moussa Dembele.
Solskjaer is desperate to overhaul his failing squad at Old Trafford after a dismal end to the season in which United managed just two wins in their final 12 matches.
The Red Devils are prioritising a move for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly – with Solskjaer asking for a ‘defensive leader’ in the mould of Virgil van Dijk – and reinforcements are also expected at full-back, in central midfield and in attack.
According to The Sun, Lyon forward Dembele is among the players Solskjaer has proposed to the board. Solskjaer is keen to replace United’s ageing spine with a fresh and hungry core and views the 22-year-old Frenchman as the ideal candidate to lead the line.
It’s claimed United are plotting a £40 million offer to land Dembele as a possible replacement for Romelu Lukaku with the latter yet to convince Solskjaer.
Dembele has notched up 14 goals and four assists in Ligue 1 since completing a £20m switch from Lyon to Celtic last August.

The striker, who has managed just six goals in all competitions since the turn of the year, has also made no secret of his ambitions to play in Italy
‘Playing in Serie A is a dream, it would be really a dream,’ Lukaku told Sky Italia last month.
‘I hope to be able to play sooner or later, even if at the moment I am focused on the United.’
