Kalidou Koulibaly is a target for Manchester United (Picture: Getty)Manchester United will have to produce a world record bid for a defender to convince Napoli to part with Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.
The Senegalese defender has been tracked by United over the last 18 months after being earmarked by Jose Mourinho as a solution to their problems at centre-back.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be given significant funds to spend this summer but the level of his budget will be determined by United’s ability to qualify for the Champions League.
Koulibaly is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford but Napoli are under no financial pressure to sell and would only consider bids above the £75million that Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk, according to the Independent.
Koulibaly is valued at around £90m (Picture: Getty)United have set aside around £100m for a centre-back of the ‘right’ profile and Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is considered the perfect fit.
However, Koulibaly is two years older than the 25-year-old Frenchman and United may not be inclined to fork out such a fee for the defender.

Solskjaer is determined to lower the average age of his squad and has promised to be ‘ruthless’ in the transfer market.
The Norwegian is set to target a right-back, a centre-back, a central midfielder and a right winger in the summer.
However, there could be up to seven departures with the likes of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera set to depart on free transfers.
