Juventus have asked Manchester United about Romelu Lukaku (Picture: Getty)Juventus have made contact with Manchester United over a potential deal for Romelu Lukaku, according to reports in Italy.
Lukaku has made it clear he’s open to new challenges away from Old Trafford with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to start the 2019/20 season with Marcus Rashford as United’s lead striker.
The 26-year-old forward has reportedly agreed personal terms to join Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan this summer, but United are yet to reach a deal over his transfer to the San Siro.
Sky Sport Italia claims that Juventus have approached United to ask about Lukaku as they consider hijacking Inter’s move for the Belgian.
Maurizio Sarri is looking to bolster Juve’s attacking options after the club successfully brought in Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey, Merih Demiral, Luca Pellegrini and Gigi Buffon.
Lukaku, who only managed 12 Premier League goals last season, is valued at around €80million (£72m) by the Red Devils.
Lyon’s Moussa Dembele and Lille’s Nicolas Pepe have been identified as possible replacements for the former Chelsea and Everton man.
Lukaku reported back for pre-season training this week (Picture: Getty)Asked about Inter’s interest last month, Lukaku told Premium Sport: ‘It’s good to see Conte joined Inter, for me he is the best manager in the world.
‘I’ve already taken a decision about the future but I can’t reveal it because I have a contract with Manchester United and because I respect the club.
‘I am a big fan of Serie A, who knows me is aware that I wanted to play in the Premier League and that I also want to play in Serie A.
‘Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Italy last season, [Maurizio] Sarri will go to Juve, [Carlo] Ancelotti is at Naples, the Serie A will be thrilling next season.
‘My agent will speak with Manchester United. I’ve already taken my decision. The club need to decide but my agent wants the best for me, I am sure it’ll be an agitated summer.’
Belgium manager Roberto Martinez believes Lukaku would be wise to consider a move away from United this summer.
‘It is clear that he has to leave Manchester United,’ Martinez told HLN.
‘It would be a good thing for both parties. It is now important that Romelu finds the right club.’
