De Gea is refusing to budge on his request to be paid on par with Alexis Sanchez, who joined United from Arsenal on a massive wage.
The goalkeeper wants a contract worth over £350,000-a-week, but United initially baulked at De Gea’s demands and were prepared to wait until next season to resolve the issue.
Talks ground to a halt as a result as De Gea rejected United’s counter offers, with his current deal set to expire next summer.
