Make your garden bloom on a budget this spring with Peter Seabrook's top five cash-saving tips

MAKE your garden bloom on a budget this spring.
With more than half of us admitting to neglecting our garden over the winter, it’s time to dust off the gloves and get back out there.
News Group Newspapers Ltd Sun gardening editor Peter Seabrook gives us his money-saving tips for getting your garden ready for spring
I spoke to Sun gardening editor Peter Seabrook, who knows a thing or two about making your garden bounce back without throwing away all your cash.
Peter says . . .
UPCYCLE THINGS AROUND YOUR HOUSE: Anything galvanised and vintage wooden is in vogue as well as being completely free. With repurposed wooden containers, make sure you put drainage holes in the base and line with recycled compost bags to preserve the wood.
SAVE: Up to £10
GIVE FLOWER BEDS A SPRING CLEAN: A few packets of annual flower seeds sown from now will fill your garden with colour and a sweetpea scent. Homebase seeds start at 93p but Wilko offer 50p packs of seeds, they’re the cheapest I’ve seen anywhere!”
SAVE: 43p

USE DIY WEED KILLER: Pour boiling water from a kettle on weeds growing in cracked paving as a quick way of getting rid of it. Deep seeded weeds will need several scorches.
SAVE: £4-£23
GET THE RIGHT TOOLS: Instead of buying new ones, head to your local car boot sale and try second-hand British-made tools which are generally better quality than modern  imports. Prevent old tools from rusting by using a WD-40 spray, around £4.29, from your local garden centre.
SAVE: Up to £50
AVOID PLANT PROTECTION SPRAY: It may be convenient but you’re buying water. You get better value buying a concentrate and diluting into a sprayer yourself.
SAVE: £26-£40
