THE Easter bank holidays are just around the corner.
For 12 million UK households, that means a spot of DIY is on the horizon.
Robbie Reynolds DIY expert Tommy Walsh shares his top quick-fix tips to save money
Redecorating can be expensive and time consuming, so I spoke to DIY expert Tommy Walsh who shared his top quick-fix tips to help free up time and save money.KITCHEN
Tommy says: “Want to give your kitchen a cheap lift? Replacing kitchen tiles can cost a small fortune but you can freshen your current ones up by re-grouting. Use a silicone gun and keep a cup of water next to you to dip your finger in. Wipe your finger along the silicone to create a professional looking finish.”
My tip: I found Unibond Grout, £5.99, from Clas Ohlson, much cheaper than the £12.80 price on Amazon.co.uk.
Tommy says: “If your bathroom is looking a bit tired, a few tweaks can work wonders — rather than forking out for a new one. Simply replacing a loo seat with a sleek, modern design can improve the look of the bathroom.”
My tip: You can grab them for £7 on eBay, while similar versions cost £12.95 at Victorian Plumbing.

Tommy says: “If you have a smaller living room, a mirror on either side of the wall makes it seem magically bigger. Another tip to give your home a spring lift is to update the smaller fixtures. Switching light and outlet covers from plastic white to attractive metal can work wonders.”
My tip: The brushed steel light switches from Sparks Warehouse are currently on sale for only £3.36, down from £12.58.
Tommy says: “Give the impression of fitted wardrobes by getting a flat pack fitted wardrobe that will fit right across one wall. After putting it together, but before screwing on the doors, attach the wardrobe to the wall. The final effect looks amazing.”
My tip: Get an Ikea wardrobe for £75 instead of the £175 Argos cost.
