Kim Kardashian has hit out at fashion brands copying her designer looks (Picture: REX)Kim Kardashian has hit out at fashion brands for copying designer items she is seen wearing, after one company has already created a knock-off version of that jaw-dropping Thierry Mugler gown.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star caused a stir when she headed out wearing the very revealing dress to the 5th Annual Hollywood Beauty Awards in Los Angeles recently.
Its velvet harness top gave Jodie Marsh’s belt look a couture update and barley covered Kim’s chest, with the 38-year-old relying solely on body tape to, ahem, cover her modesty.
The look definitely made a statement and saw Piers Morgan come for Kim, with the TV presenter claiming she ‘lacks class’ for sporting the eye-popping design.
Within 24 hours a knock-off of Kim’s Mugler dress was advertised online (Picture: BACKGRID)But, while the dress may have its critics, it also has its fans and given that the look has been rocked by Kim K, many gals are no doubt hoping to do the same.
So it’s no surprise that clothing brand Fashion Nova has already got their own take on the gown in the making, but when Kim got wind of their plans, she wasn’t happy.
The mum-of-three took to Instagram to vent her frustration at fast fashion companies mimicking the work of designers and claimed it was ‘devastating to see’.
Kim posted a statement via her story that read: ‘It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their original ideas.
‘I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.’
Kim continued: ‘Only two days ago, I was privileged enough to wear a one-of-a-kind vintage Mugler dress and in less than 24 hours it was knocked off and thrown up on a site – but it’s not for sale. You have to sign up for a wait lost because the dress hasn’t even been made to sell yet.
‘This is a way to get people to sign up for their mailing list and make people believe there is some kind of relationship between me and this fashion site. There is not.’
Kim stated that her relationships with designers are ‘very important’ to her and have taken her ‘over a decade to build’.
She stressed that she is ‘grateful for every fashion moment’ she has created with the help of designers and their creations and insisted some of her looks are planned for way in advance.
Kim affirmed that she doesn’t support such designs being copied by brands and distanced herself from them by saying: ‘I’m not leaking my looks to anyone and I don’t support what these companies are doing.’
According to Just Jared, Fashion Nova responded to Kim’s statement with their own.
They said: ‘We respect the fashion community and work with a variety of vendors, designers, influencers and celebrities to keep our style fresh and relevant. Kim Kardashian West is one of the top fashion icons in the world that our customers draw inspiration from.
‘However, we have not worked with Kim Kardashian West directly on any of her projects but have been driven by her influential style.’
