DeGale and Eubank Jr are set to fight at the O2 on Saturday night in a must-win bout for both fighters, with Douglin supposedly on the latter’s side.
The 30-year-old was employed to help Eubank throughout his camp in the build-up to fight, having been brought in by trainer Nate Vasquez for sparring sessions.
However, with camp now out of the way and his services no longer required, Douglin has surprisingly come out and insisted DeGale is still likely to win.
‘Douglin said that? I would been very unhappy if one of my sparring partners had said something like this about me,’ DeGale said.
‘While he was still here he was telling people that I’m rubbish. But I guess he can say what he thinks now he’s gone home with the pay cheque.
‘And he’s only saying what most people believe. That Chris is not a good enough boxer to beat anyone with my skills.’
The fight on Saturday is for the IBO super-middleweight belt, which was last held by Eubank Jr himself in defeat to George Groves.
