James DeGale admits he's set to retire from boxing after Chris Eubank Jr defeat at O2 Arena



JAMES DEGALE virtually announced his retirement from boxing and insisted “I’ve left my mark”.
The 33-year-old was comfortably beaten by Chris Eubank Jr on points at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.

And “Chunky” admitted his latest loss will probably be his last in the sport.
He said: “I’m going to go back talk to my team and family but I’ve been to the heights of boxing.
“I’ve won an Olympic gold medal, won the world title twice, made history and I’ve boxed the best around the world.
“I’ve left my mark in boxing – I’m the history man.”

DeGale added: “Chris performed well – tough, strong and he’s a good prospect.
“I just didn’t do enough but when you’re in there with someone throwing a lot of wild punches.”
Eubank Jr, meanwhile, wants to win boxing’s big belts after picking up the IBO strap on Saturday night.
He said: “I am coming for all of the other belts in the super-middleweight or middleweight division.

“I dominated pretty much every single round. He’s a hell of a skilled boxer but at the end of the day my heart and my tenacity won me the fight.
“A lot of people said I was going to lose and have my head jabbed off.
“I proved those guys wrong and now onto bigger and better things. It’s belt season, it’s collection season.”
