Hernandez drew West Ham level (Picture: REUTERS)Javier Hernandez scored a controversial goal on Friday night to add to relegation-threatened Fulham’s woes.
The West Ham striker flung himself to the floor at the far post to level things up in the first half and score a milestone 50th Premier League goal.
But while the goal stood, replays clearly showed the former Manchester United man putting the ball into the back of the net with his hand.
Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri cut a frustrated figure on the sideline, having seen Ryan Babel’s early opener cancelled out, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was heavily critical of the Mexican attacker.
‘His reaction was telling, how long he stayed on the ground,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.
Hernandez punched it in (Picture: REUTERS)‘Week after week there’s arguments, debates about diving, cheating, whatever it may be. That’s exactly the same.
‘He knows exactly what he’s doing punching the ball in at the back post.
‘Is it cheating? Is it gamesmanship? It’s cheating. He knows exactly what he’s doing.
Hernandez celebrated (Picture: Action Images via Reuters)‘Would I complain if my own striker did it? Probably not.
‘VAR would clear that up. It was a blatant handball from Hernandez and it’s completely changed the ascendancy of this game.’
West Ham centre-back Issa Diop put his side 2-1 up with a header from a corner just before half-time.
