Iceland is selling a pizza with HOUMOUS instead of cheese

IS a pizza even a pizza if it doesn’t have cheese? With a growing number of eaters opting for a plant based diets, supermarkets are searching for alternatives to spread across doughy bases.
Iceland thinks it has found a solution with its new “No Cheese” pizza which is slathered in houmous.

The stone-baked pizza is then topped with seasoned tomatoes and black kale.
Most people think that vegan cheese is no match for mighty mozzarella or runny ricotta.
But we’re not sure. Our office is divided, with some saying they love the idea of warm pureed chickpeas on their pizza, while others can’t imagine anything worse.
Frozen food specialist Iceland also has a no cheese “Italian Garden” pizza, which has a tomato base with broccoli, mushroom and red onion toppings.
As both pizzas have no dairy or meat on them they’re suitable for vegans – although coeliacs should still clear as they do contain wheat.
You can buy the pizzas online and in store at Iceland for £2 but they are frozen, so make sure to cook them thoroughly before eating – Iceland recommends 10 to 12 minutes at 200 degrees centigrade.

Sainsbury’s and Tesco both sell own-brand vegan pizzas but most of them contain vegan cheese on top.
For truly cheese-free pizzas – vegan or otherwise – the only own-brand options from the major supermarkets are Sainsbury’s BBQ jackfruit and mushroom pizza, its butternut squash and charred broccoli pizza, and its spicy masala chickpea pizzas – which all cost £3.50.
Of course before tucking in, bear in mind that the entire 284g hummus pizza contains 692 calories, while the 382g Italian variety contains a heftier 746 calories.
An adult man should eat around 2,500 calories a day, while it’s 2,000 for a woman, according to NHS guidelines.

Iceland’s houmous pizza was spotted by the DealPow Deals, Discounts, Sales & Bargains Facebook page and shoppers can’t wait to try it.
One person commented: “Get me down Iceland”, while another said: “This looks really yummy, may try it homemade”.
But others weren’t so sure. One wrote: “No melted cheese” while another simply said: “Such a sad pizza”.
