Hyundai kills off the car key by letting you unlock and start its new motor with a smartphone

LOSING car keys could be a thing of the past thanks to new technology from Hyundai that lets you use your smartphone to unlock your vehicle.

The Sonata car has been around since the 1980s but the 2020 features technology that has never been seen before on a Hyundai car.
To use the app, smartphone owners must first download the Hyundai app, which then uses ‘Near Field Communication’ technology to turn the phone into a key capable of unlocking the car if it is placed near the drivers seat door handle.
Car owners can chose which smartphones can have the power to access the car and for how long.
The car also comes with a traditional set of keys as the smartphone key is only available on Android phones.

The Hyundai ‘Digital Key’ app can also enable car owners to remotely control some of the cars functions, such as starting the engine or activating the panic alarm.
Owners who are sharing or loaning their car to friends or family members can also control some of the features that can be used and can remotely revoke the smartphone key at any time.
The Hyundai 2020 Sonata car will be available in October this year.
