Sort and stash. Set yourself a 30-minute timer and be ruthless. Save only items you love and wear regularly. Pop anything you are unsure of in a “swap” pile.Swishing parties, where you swap items with mates, are a great way to recycle and get new clobber for free. You could list branded items on clothes selling app Depop or eBay — but look up similar items first to see if it is really worth the bother after forking out for selling fees and P&P.
Clearly amazing. Pack away winter wardrobe staples and heavy bedding to free up living space.Vacuum storage bags are great space-savers — and you can nab 12 for just £7.98 at Groupon.Or use bin bags instead. Pick up 20 XL bags for £3.25 at Wilko.SAVING: Up to £4.73
Too much scuff. Display shoes neatly on a shoe rack. Ikea’s popular white, two-tier rack is £20 but you can pick up a couple of tester paint pots (£1.70 at B&Q) to paint The Range’s £4.99 rack — for a total cost of £8.39. A cheap way to smarten up scuffed shoes is to use a rubber on marks. They will disappear.SAVING: £11.61
Drawer organisers. After having your clearout, keep organised with drawer tidies. I like the InterDesign Clear Drawer Organiser, £7.95 at theholdingcompany.co.uk. It is cheaper than the £12.99 John Lewis version too.SAVING: £5.04
Rail success. Slimline hangers are the key to fitting clothes into your wardrobe more comfortably. They are £17 a pack at Argos but grab 25 black velvet hangers at Dunelm for £5 (20p per hanger).Hang everything facing the same direction. After wearing an item, hang it facing the other way. Then, next you time have a clearout, you will instantly know what you haven’t worn in a while.SAVING: £12 by heading to Dunelm
