A horse has died after burglars robbing a stable fed her more than 150 carrots to keep her quiet during the raid.
Distraught pet owner Francesca Maples, 23, found four-year-old Kamara unwell in her stall the morning after the robbery.
Alongside the sick horse, there was an empty sack that had been filled with 20kg of carrots just the day before.

The enormous amount of sugar contained within such a large number of carrots had burned the animal’s intestinal lining away, meaning Kamara could no longer eat or drink.
She survived on antibiotics for three weeks after the robbery on January 18 but Francesca made the painful decision to put her down last week.

‘Kamara is normally so lively and full of character but she was lethargic and not being herself at all.
‘When I checked her body I could feel she had a lot of swelling to her head and chest.’
She added: ‘We did everything we could to save her but in the end it was cruel to keep her alive any longer.
‘I’d had Kamara since she was 16 months old, we have grown up together.
‘I’m so sad to lose her.’

The morning afterwards, Francesca rushed Kamara to the vets.
She was put on antibiotics then sent back to the yard.

Francesca said Kamara’s intestinal lining and digestive tract had been burned away by the sugar contained within the carrots.
This had made it too painful to eat or drink and the animal was clearly dying, according to Francesca.
She made the devastating decision to put her down on February 10.

Her dad Darren, 58, said: ‘The people who have come in to do this just don’t care.
‘They have no remorse, no morals.

‘She has lost the one thing she cared for most, for nothing but their greed.’
With no eye witnesses, forensic evidence or CCTV footage, West Yorkshire Police said they have so far been unable to establish who was responsible for the robbery.
Francesca has set up a crowdfunding page to help pay for the vet bills.
She is aiming to raise £2,200 after the bill was reduced because she was able to send back excess medication.
