MOTOR in need of a makeover? We can keep you on the road for less.
The costs of owning a car adds up, with a new study revealing we spend up to a QUARTER of our salaries on our wheels.
Getty – Contributor Here’s how to give your car some TLC without blowing the budget
If your car needs a little TLC, try these cost-cutting tips from motor expert Chris Edwards of DC Dodd Motors in Leytonstone, East London.
Wash up: Sometimes a good wash is all that’s needed to make a car look new. But regularly visiting a car wash can soon add up, with averages around £10.
Save money by going the DIY route. Chris says: “Get rid of any old grime with a strong car shampoo. I prefer to use Meguiar’s, for £6.80 — it’s long-lasting and leaves the paintwork super-glossy.”
SAVING: £3.20 from the first wash
Scent-sational: Spruce up the smell of your motor with Carfume. It sells fragrances for cars inspired by designer names, including Jo Malone. Pick up a Pomegranate Noir-inspired scent for £9.99, far cheaper than spritzing your interior with a regular bottle at £47 for 30ml.
Light relief: Dull headlights can leave your car looking in need of TLC, but this is easily fixed. Chris says: “Dull or ‘yellowish’ headlights can be given a spruce with a headlamp restoration kit, £21.60 at Halfords. But you can also use toothpaste to buff away cloudiness.”
Car due an MOT? Get one for less via topcashback.co.uk. Drivers can currently nab 8.4 per cent of the cost of a Kwik Fit MOT (starting at £27) back via the service.
In a dash: If your dashboard is looking the worse for wear, you can clean it up yourself without a full valet. Chris says: “A dash and trim treatment can work wonders.”
You can get Poorboys Trim Restorer for less than half price at £11.34 from carparts4less.co.uk.
