Freddie Starr to be buried in coffin engraved with Elvis song 'Return To Sender' at funeral today

FREDDIE Starr will today be laid to rest in a coffin engraved with the words “Return to Sender” in a nod to Elvis Presley – the legend he was famed to impersonate.
Fans will today bid farewell to legendary comic Starr, who died aged 76 of a heart attack in Spain last month.

And in a touching nod to his comedy career, Starr’s coffin had the words of Elvis’ 1962 hit “Return to Sender” engraved on one side, with “Liverpool legend” on the other.
Ahead of today’s service, Michael Fogg Family Funeral Directors wrote on Facebook: “Today we conduct the funeral for Freddie Starr.
“To have cared for one of this country’s best Entertainer’s has been such a privilege I can’t put it into words.
“We will be leaving our funeral home in Sheffield at 09.15 And making our way to Liverpool to lay Freddie to Rest with his beloved mother.
“Rest in peace Freddie and THANKYOU for everything”.
Fans were urged to leave a message for the comic, who was known for his wacky, wild, and unpredictable behaviour in the 1970s and 80s.
One fan gushed: “R.I.P Freddie you brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people with your fun personality. A legend xx Thanks to Michael Fogg and his family for this fantastic gesture xxx”
Another added: “Thinking of you today Freddie as we have many happy memories of your hilarious antics. Rest in peace and feel the love from everyone.”
A third wrote: “Rip Freddie, lay peacefully with your Mum. Always be remembered as a talented funny man, certainly made me laugh on many occasions when i saw you. Also had the pleasure of meeting you. I will treasure my signed book xx”.LAID TO REST
It had been feared that Freddie — who was estranged from his family and had become a penniless recluse — would get only a pauper’s funeral in Spain.
But funeral director Mr Fogg decided to step up, helping to repatriate the star’s body and organise today’s service.
Today, fans are expected to line the streets ahead of the final farewell.
Celebrity pals are also expected to be at the ceremony – with plans for Starr’s old comedian pals to crack jokes for fans.
After the service, a private burial will be held for Starr’s family.
Two of Freddie’s ex-wives – Donna and Sophie – along with some of his six children are set to attend.
Freddie is expected to be laid to rest next to his mum and dad with poppy seeds scattered out of respect.
The funeral will take place at the Prescot Parish Church at 1pm.
Starr had been found dead from a heart attack by his Bulgarian live-in carer Nelly Georgieva, 46, in Mijas after she returned from a 30 minute shopping trip.
Freddie was one of the biggest stars of the 1970s and 1980s – and at the height of his fame earned an estimated £2million a year.
But his later years were marred by allegations of historic sexual assault and an ultimately unsuccessful defamation lawsuit that cost him a rumoured £1 million.
