Anthony was killed last month when his motorbike hit a van in Phuket — and a letter from Southgate was read out at his funeral.
It said he wanted to write after being told of the “incredibly sad news”.
He added: “What has happened is a reminder to us all to make the most of every day.”
The England manager added: “I know this will have been a difficult time for you all and it will be really hard to move forward.
“I am sure you will all pay your respects in the appropriate way and you will all be there to support Anthony’s family.”
Anthony was described as “beautiful”, “incredibly intelligent” and “amazing” by family, friends and ex-teachers.
