AS MANY as twenty-four people are dead and 50 injured after a blaze ripped through a train entering a major station in Egypt.
Local reports show harrowing pictures of bodies strewn on the tracks after the fire reportedly caused the train to derail at Ramses station in downtown Cairo.

The fire is said to have been triggered by an explosion of a fuel tank on a speeding train that was heading into the station.
The train had been travelling from Alexandria when the blaze erupted.
Shorouk News said the fire had killed 24 and wounded 50.
A witness said there was a blast when a train rammed into a barrier at Ramses station, and he had seen charred bodies on the ground.

Eyewitness Mina Ghaly told Reuters: “I was standing on the platform and I saw the train speed into the barrier.”
“Everyone started running but a lot of people died after the locomotive exploded.”

Video shows people trying to flee from the scene as panic spreads.
Railway authorities have reportedly ordered a full evacuation of the station, and there are reports of a partial building collapse as a result of the fire.

Sky News Arabia reported that the crash had caused a fuel tank to explode, and fire services are desperately trying to keep the fire contained.
An Egyptian medical official put the death count at 10 people with 22 injured.
Mohammed Said, the head of the Cairo Railroad hospital, says the death toll is expected to rise further following the blaze on Wednesday.
