THE driver of a 4×4 killed two pedestrians when she crashed into them after taking prescription painkillers, a court heard.
Emma Downs, 38, was on Tramadol and morphine when she ploughed into James Morden and Matthew Lind, both 31.

She had been prescribed the drugs after cracking three ribs. But she had complained they made her fall over and feel “really tired”. Just days before the collision, she told pals: “I can barely drive, it’s not safe at night.”
But in September 2017 she drove her Nissan Pathfinder into James and Matthew and two others as they returned to a campsite in Ringmer, East Sussex, after a night out.
Lewes crown court heard they had no torches or reflective clothing.
Prosecutor Elizabeth Lowe said: “She simply did not see them.
“She took no avoiding measure, she appreciated she was running a risk.”

Cancer Research Institute statistician Mr Morden, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and tech firm chief Mr Lind, of Wimbledon, South West London, died.
A woman, 29, from Wimbledon, and a 27-year-old woman, of Addlestone, Surrey, were injured.
Downs, of Crowborough, East Sussex, denies causing death by dangerous driving. Trial continues.
