James didn’t hesitate to save Erin after she was stood up (Picture: Channel 4)Derry Girls really is the gift that keeps on giving and now fans are backing James and Erin to get together after their heartstrings were well and truly tugged on Tuesday’s episode.
Batting our emotions back and forth more than a game of tennis, the gang headed to a 50s style prom, and Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) got herself hyped up after landing town fittie John-Paul as her date.
Wearing a tight blue satin dress she couldn’t walk in and going the extra mile to impress, our tears of laughter at her efforts to wiggle around the room soon turned into heartbreak when John-Paul pulled the ultimate douche move and didn’t show up to get her.
Clearly gutted after a two hour wait, a heartbroken Erin decided to skip the dance and head off to bed – only for her best mate James (Dylan Llewellyn) to turn up at the door at the last second.
Given the heads up by Erin’s mam, James – who was skipping the dance to attend a Doctor Who convention – arrived in full Sylvester McCoy cosplay to come and make sure she made it to the ball.
‘What about your creep convention?,’ Erin asked him, with the relief clear on her face.
‘It’s not a creep convention,’ James smiled back. ‘And it’s not important.’

After a call from Erin’s mum, James ditched his Doctor Who convention to help her (Picture: Channel 4)Running upstairs, Erin then changed into her far more comfy Easter dress – and got the makeover moment she was hoping for as James gazed while she made her way down the stairs.
There were tears, you guys. Actual tears.
It was the kind of perfect moment that all shippers crave, and now it appears everyone is getting on board their previously platonic friendship going to the next step.
Changing into something more comfy, the pair joined the gang at prom (Picture: Channel 4)‘Did anyone else love when James showed up and took Erin to the prom? He’s so nice. I hope they get together,’ one viewer wrote.
While another rallied the troops and decalred: ‘Okay, so we’re all agreed, Erin and James have to end up together?! RIGHT?!’
‘Awwww James & Erin my heart broke & then was filled with joy. Wot a brilliant show, it never fails to hit the mark.’

‘Erin being stood up and James taking her to prom is not doing my emotions any good right now,’ said another – speaking for everyone who caught the moment.
With only one episode to go before the end of the series (I know, we’re livid too) – jury’s still out over what to expect next.
Derry Girls continues Tuesday at 9.15pm on Channel 4.
