Death Stranding release date – plot, news, trailers, PS5 release info and more revealed

DEATH STRANDING is the debut game from Kojima Productions, the studio founded by visionary Metal Geal Solid creator Hideo Kojima – but when is it released?
We reveal all the Death Stranding rumours, leaks, and announcements, plus trailers and more.
Kojima Productions Hideo Kojima’s new game looks barmy as hell – in other words it will probably be a deranged masterpiece
What is Death Stranding?
Now that’s a doozy.
Death Stranding has been described as an action game with online multiplayer elements.
According to Hideo Kojima, speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival, it’s about “connection”.
“You’re very alone, there’s solitude, but you’re trying to connect. The story and the gameplay, the key word is ‘connection.’”
The core of the game is a “really new idea”, he explained cryptically.
“You’re connecting the game, and everyone is playing it together, and you’ll be connected, everyone will be connected together as well. I can’t say anything because Sony will be very unhappy. I don’t want to be disconnected from Sony.”
But that’s just scratching the surface of the mysterious title.
Other than that, we know the game will boast an open-world and a potential, interconnected multi-character story.
And that it features Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead), Oscar-winning The Shape of Water Director Guillermo Del Toro, and Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen.

Death Stranding is powered by the Decima game engine from the creators of Horizon Zero Dawn.
It was used in that game and has been hyped for its handling of artificial intelligence and open worlds.
Death Stranding dates back to Kojima’s time at Metal Gear Solid developer Konami, and his work on the since-shelved reboot of classic horror game Silent Hills.
So be prepared for frights.
That game became a casualty of Kojima’s acrimonious split with Konami, with Kojima going on to start his own game studio, Kojima Productions.

There’s no official release date yet – but Kojima has suggested it might be out before the end of 2019.
This was backed up with a January 2019 tweet from voice actor Troy Barker, suggesting his character, and hence the game, would be out in 2019.
In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation, the developer also teased “something in 2018 that’ll surprise everyone”.

The most recent trailer was unveiled at The Game Awards in 2017 and is completely bonkers.
Seriously, just take in the craziness for yourself.Death Stranding plot – what’s the game about?
The game’s first cinematic teaser, featuring a naked Norman Reedus cradling a baby, left many bemused.
Over a year later, and we’re still no closer to figuring it all out.
Although there’s plenty of fan theories dedicated to just that on Reddit.

A second trailer showed us another fetus (in a jar) and a glimpse of Del Toro and Mikkelsen, and more dead ocean life and tentacled monsters.
Dishing on the title, Kojima said Death Stranding refers to when whales or dolphins wash up dead on the shore, and the strange phenomenon of mass strandings.
“This title refers to something from another world stranded in our world,” Kojima said.
The company recently trademarked s “social strand system,” and “strand game”, seemingly in relation to the game’s mysterious multiplayer components.
Talking about the game’s plot, Kojima recently said he wants people “to think of their lives, or to take a step back and look at the world and say ‘oh yeah, this is the connection or disconnection in the world.’
“Like some people create walls around, like what’s happening in Europe, you might see some similarities playing the game.”
We’ll have what he’s having.
