LA Galaxy recently opened a legends plaza where they plan to pay tribute to notable former players.
Beckham’s was the first statue to be unveiled ahead of their first league match of the 2019 MLS season.
The 43-year-old was also in the stands to see his former club get off to a winning start by beating Chicago Fire 2-1 thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s winner.
Addressing the delighted crowd before the game he said: “My commitment to this league and country was always a lot more than on the field,

“I wanted to grow the game and play a small part in growing this league and making it bigger. I think we have been successful but there still is a long way to go but I think we are very happy with the growth over the past 10 years.”
Beckham will have a lot more involvement in the MLS next season when his franchise Inter Miami CF make their debut.
And MLS commissioner Don Garber believes Beckham’s presence in America has done wonders for the league.
He said: “No doubt our league wouldn’t be what it is today if David didn’t make that decision,
“At that time we were a fledgling business and trying to figure out if soccer would make it in America. His signing told the world that Major League Soccer could be the league of choice.”
