Gurney and Smith played out a cracking Premier League contest (Picture: Michael Cooper/PDC)Daryl Gurney thanked Michael Smith for his admirable act of sportsmanship during their Premier League contest in Dublin on Thursday night.
After a topsy-turvy contest at the 3Arena, Gurney was 6-5 ahead and eyeing up double 10 for the match.
The rowdy Irish crowd were booing ‘Superchin’ as he stepped up to the oche and Smith did his best to keep them quiet behind his opponent’s back.
The Northern Irishman held his nerve in the raucous atmosphere, pinned the double 10 and claimed the win.
Gurney only found out about Smith’s actions after the game and seriously appreciated the kindness of his opponent.
‘Superchin’ tweeted: ‘A word on @BullyBoy180 hushing the crowd a real class act and imo the most talented player in the world 🌍 I have to try and he doesn’t ❤️❤️’

It is not the first time that Smith has done his best to keep the crowd in good order.
Even in the biggest game in the sport, Smith was trying to maintain fair play as he battled Michael van Gerwen in the 2019 World Championship final on New Year’s Day.
MVG was throwing for the match, and his third world title, and ‘Bully Boy’ motioned to the crowd to give the booing a rest at Alexandra Palace.
Smith has had a disappointing start to his Premier League campaign, sitting bottom of the table with just one point from his first three games.
He will look to improve upon that situation when he meets Raymond van Barneveld in Exeter next week, knowing a victory will see him overtake the Dutchman.
While he might not have won a match in the league yet, Smith will have picked up plenty of new fans for his sportsmanship on the big stage.
