Fish and chips, Britain’s trademark meal, only came third, while pizza was placed shockingly low at number four.
Despite the winner being chosen by the Great British public, many viewers were shocked that Chinese won first place ahead of the others.
One tweeted: “I wouldn’t even put Chinese in my top five.”
Another posted: “We are British guys fish & chips should be top (the chip shop chip is just perfection) & pizza 2nd for me.”
But others were happy with the results, and some even ordered themselves a Chinese in celebration.
“Chinese is a worthy winner of Britains Fav Takeaway – hands down…” one said.
Another wrote: “Spot on. Chinese top, then curry, followed closely by fish and chips.”
The list included some bizarre options including a bagel and jacket potato, which left many viewers scratching their heads.
