Chelsea news: What Zinedine Zidane has told friends about replacing Maurizio Sarri

The Frenchman is the leading candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge (Picture: Getty)Chelsea will need to act fast if they want Zinedine Zidane to replace Maurizio Sarri with Juventus ready to make a rival offer – and the Frenchman appears keener on a return to Turin.
Sarri earned himself a stay of execution with Wednesday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur, though there are still significant worries behind-the-scenes about his suitability to lead the club.
Chelsea were hammered 6-0 by Manchester City just a few weeks ago – their heaviest ever Premier League defeat – but gave a dogged display in the Carabao Cup final before seeing off Spurs.

However, while Chelsea’s hierarchy want to give Sarri time to turn things around, they have been alerted to the possibility of Zidane taking charge at Juve should Massimiliano Allegri leave in the summer.

The Italian looks set to win a fifth straight Serie A title, though has grown frustrated with the criticism he has received for failing to win the Champions League.
Juventus believe Zidane would be the perfect successor, having enjoyed five seasons at the club as a player, while he knows how to manage a dressing room full of egos from his time at Real Madrid.

He has also confided that he has reservations over whether Chelsea would be the right move given the issues that have faced Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte and now Sarri.
Chelsea managers have little control over transfers, while the club are facing the prospect of a two-window transfer ban, a problem that will be exacerbated further if star man Eden Hazard does not renew his contract.
