The 31-year-old striker has managed just three goals in his opening ten appearances for Chelsea since completing a loan move from Juventus to Stamford Bridge in January.
Higuain announced that he had retired from international duty with Argentina on Thursday in order to focus on club football and Sarri is hopeful the forward’s form can improve in the remaining weeks of the season.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Cardiff, Sarri challenged Higuain to be at the ‘very top’ with the Blues looking to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Asked if Higuain could still be at Chelsea next season, Sarri replied: ‘I don’t know. I’d like to see him at the top in the last two months.
‘At the moment, only this is very important. We need Gonzalo at the very top.
‘It’s not easy to get used to this championship. The level is different; the way of playing is different. Especially for a striker, it’s very difficult to get used to the Premier League in only one, two months.’

Higuain can return to his best, claims Sarri (Picture: Getty)Sarri lifted the lid on his conversations with Higuain, revealing that the forward is still struggling to cope with defenders and referees in England.
‘He said to me that it’s difficult because the physical impact of the defenders here is really very strong,’ Sarri added.
‘The referees here are really very different than in Italy, so it’s another football for him.

‘Especially for the striker and the goalkeeper, I think it’s really very different.
‘So I think he needs time, but we have no time. We need him at his top level in the last two months.’
