Reports in France claim that Madrid and Chelsea have reached a €100 million (£86m) agreement for Hazard and an official announcement is expected following the Europa League final at the end of this month.
Ever since Zinedine Zidane returned as manager at the Bernabeu in mid-March, Hazard has made no secret of his desire to move on and the Belgian has confirmed that he informed Chelsea of his decision ‘weeks ago’.
However, former Chelsea boss Di Matteo believes the club’s transfer ban could see them pull the plug on Hazard’s move to the Spanish capital.

‘Who knows about Hazard? Chelsea have a transfer ban so it is going to be very difficult for anybody to leave that they don’t want to leave,’ Di Matteo told The Sun.
‘He’s the player that makes the difference. He can change a game individually and there aren’t many players like that. It would be a real shame to lose a player like that.

Hazard may still be a Chelsea player next season, says Di Matteo (Picture: Getty)‘Losing Hazard is not great but I’m not sure it will be that easy for him to leave.
‘The club has a transfer ban and letting a top player leave and not being able to replace him, it would be very tough for a top club to buy him.
‘Nobody is bigger than the club. It’s understandable that he may want to experience a different league after being in London for seven years but it might not be this summer.’

Hazard’s final decision must be accepted by Chelsea, says Loftus-Cheek (Picture: Getty)Ruben Loftus-Cheek has claimed Chelsea players are desperate for Hazard to stay put but believes the club must accept his decision should he end up at Madrid this summer.
‘I think he will be remembered as one of the best players to have played for Chelsea, but also one of the best players to have played in England,’ the Chelsea and England midfielder told CNN Sport.
‘I think what he has done for Chelsea over the past seven years is remarkable and he’s helped Chelsea win Premier League titles, Europa League titles.
‘He is such a talented player but he’s still got time left to improve and be even more magical,’ ‘As a club then Chelsea thanks him for what he has done if he does decide to move on but we all want him to stay obviously.

Loftus-Cheek added: ‘I think just being around him, just being able to play with him and kind of observe how he is as a person and a human being.
‘He’s a very nice person, he is so focused on what he does. He has a quiet confidence about him that is rare I think.
‘It’s good to see all the different personalities. He’s very quiet and focused; someone else might be loud and vocal. He is definitely one of the best players I’ve played with.’
