Saif Rubie, who helped bring Rudiger to Chelsea from Roma in 2017, slammed Azpilicueta for not stepping in when Kepa refused to be substituted against Manchester City.
Kepa dismissed Sarri’s furious instructions to come off, although the Chelsea manager insisted after game the row was a ‘big misunderstanding’.
Sarri said Kepa was not facing any disciplinary action, but Rubie called for Rudiger to be given the armband at Chelsea because Azpilicueta did not step in during the incident.
He added: ‘I’m a fan of Azpi but as captain he should never have allowed what happened with the goalkeeper refusing to come off to happen.
‘For me he needs to have the captaincy taken off him, goalkeeper dropped for the foreseeable future and Rudiger to be made Chelsea captain as he’s a real leader.’

Azpilicueta refused to comment on the row after the game in his post-match interview, claiming he did not see the incident as he was on the other side of the pitch.
Kepa went down twice with cramp and needed attention from the Chelsea medical team, but Sarri said after the game he was incorrect to think the goalkeeper could not continue.
Chelsea legend John Terry said Kepa showed a lack of respect for his coach, but the goalkeeper has since spoken out about the incident.
