IF YOU’RE looking for the perfect wireless earphones, then look no further.
That might mean I’ve shown my hand a little early in this review, but Beats’ new Powerbeats Pro are nearly faultless. Nearly.
The Sun The Powerbeats Pro are almost unshakeable once you get them in your lugholes
The main thing holding them back is their knee-wobbling £220 price tag – so, are they really worth it?
First off, some background: The Powerbeats Pro are the followup to 2018’s Powerbeats 3.
They’re made by Beats, the audio company set up by Dr Dre and bought out by Apple for £2billion in 2014.
Beats says its latest offering, which hit shelves this month, are built for “passionate music lovers and motivated athletes”.
Beats They come in four colours (left to right): Ivory, Moss, Navy and Black
They’ve got a hook that sits over your ear to help the Bluetooth buds cling to your head while you’re working out, and in the time I’ve used them, I’ve found they’re almost unshakeable.
Even the wobbliest runs and circuits don’t phase the Powerbeats Pro, making them great for the more active music fan.
The light build means they don’t feel bulky on your head, and they’re true wireless, meaning no fiddly cables dangling next to you.
Beats has also included some handy buttons on each bud, allowing you to change the volume, skip tracks and pause your tunes on the go.
For the sweatier among you, Beats has made the Powerbeats Pro water resistant, and I found no problem with sweat or dirt over the few workouts I did with them.
It’s all well and good that they work while exercising, but it’s the sound you get from the Powerbeats Pro that really makes them stand out.
Beats The case is a little big and clunky for my liking
The earphones give a crisp, clean sound with very little “booming” as your feet hit the ground during a run – a common issue with wireless earphones.
I’ve found Beats’ headgear a little too bass-y in the past, but didn’t notice that with the Powerbeats Pro.
Overall, they give a great sound that for me is even better than the AirPods, which are the Powerbeats’ biggest rival.
I also really like the design Beats has gone for.
Previous Powerbeats have looked a little clunky for my tastes, but I like the sci-fi look of the Powerbeats Pro.
They come in Black, Ivory, Moss and Navy, and appear as a smart bar across your lugs, with the clunky-looking hook sitting behind your ear.
Beats I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi design
My only criticism would be that the charging case they come with is pretty chunky, and doesn’t fit the clean-cut look of the earphones themselves.
That brings me onto battery, which I’ve been pretty impressed with in the week or so I’ve used the earphones.
Each earbud will blast your tunes for about 9 hours between charges, and you can always pop them in the portable (just about) charging case to boost that to 24 hours.
Beats has added a “Fast Fuel” charging system that supposedly gives you 1.5 hours of playback with just 5 minutes of charging, rising to 4.5 hours after 15 minutes of charging.

Overall, I think the Powerbeats Pro are a monster pair of earphones that are among the best money can buy.
For me, they top the Airpods 2 in both sound quality and design while only costing £20 more.
If you’re looking for workout earphones, I don’t think you can do much better, as they’re worth every penny of the £220 price tag.
You can buy the Powerbeats Pro now from Apple’s website.
