Barcelona set to sell Ivan Rakitic for £43m after his woeful performance vs Liverpool

Inter are reportedly set to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona (Getty Images)Barcelona are on the verge of selling Ivan Rakitic to Inter in a £43 million deal, according to reports.
The 31-year-old is about to complete his fifth season at Barca and has helped the club win four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey trophies and the Champions League.
But Barca are open to selling Rakitic this summer and according to Goal, Inter are on the brink of completing a move for the Croatia international.
Inter are planning to mount a serious challenge for the Serie A title next season and are lining up former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as a replacement for Luciano Spallettii.
And Rakitic is set to be Conte’s first signing as the Italian club are expected to make significant changes this summer.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are looking to bolster their funds ahead of the transfer window and are looking to offload Rakitic in order to improve other areas of their squad.
The Spanish champions have already agreed to sign Frenkie de Jong for £65.3m this summer but are also desperate to sign his Ajax teammate Matthijs de Ligt, who will also cost in excess of £65m.
Barca did receive an £86m bid from Paris Saint-Germain for Rakitic last summer but turned it down and now face the prospect of selling the midfielder, who turned 31 this year, for half that amount.

Rakitic also angered Barcelona’s hierarchy this week after he happily posed for pictures at the Sevilla Fair less than 24 hours after the club’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening.
Barca’s squad were given a two-day break after their Champions League exit and Raktic annoyed supporters as a picture of him alongside Jose Maria Del Nido, son of Sevilla’s former president, was circulated on social media.
But on Saturday, Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde defended Rakitic over the incident.
‘He explained that he went to see his wife and children, he went out to the street and someone took a photo with him,’ Valverde said.
‘You have to go out to the street and accept the situation, [but] you can’t doubt his professionalism.’
