Gunners boss Unai Emery wanted to sign the midfielder in the January transfer window, but a deal could not be done in time and the 21-year-old remained in Paris.
However, his playing time with the Ligue 1 champions has been limited, starting just 13 league goals this season and not playing at all in the Champions League.
Nkunku came off the bench in the final minute of extra-time in the final of the Coupe de France on Saturday and missed the final penalty, blazing his spot kick over the bar and handing Rennes the victory.
The youngster has also been linked with a move to Rennes, and his agent has confirmed that a move is likely.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has stated that Arsenal are very much still interested in signing the midfielder as they look for a replacement for Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey.
‘Christopher Nkunku is still being pursued by Arsenal,’ tweeted Schira.
‘He is one of the names evaluated by #Emery for the post-Ramsey. Contacts ongoing between Gunners and PSG.’
Emery managed Nkunku when he was in charge of PSG from 2016-18 and is a fan of the talented youngster who has scored three Ligue 1 goals this season.
Pierre-Fanfan confirmed in January that the Gunners were attempting to sign his client, but that they were unable to do so in the mid-season transfer window.
‘There is a real interest from Arsenal for Nkunku, but the discussions are quite complicated,’ the agent told Canal+.
‘There are restrictions from Arsenal’s side, they cannot do a transfer in the middle of the season.
‘His situation will be evaluated in June, then he will have just one year left on his contract, and his situation will need to be evaluated.
‘He is a young boy, who needs to play, enjoy himself, and to sign up for a project for the long term, that is what he is looking for, and he was in that phase with Arsenal but it looks complicated.’
Nkunku has declined a new deal in Paris, meaning he has just over a year left on his current contract.
